Abstract:

Teaching English has become a necessity for every country in the current era of globalization. However, teaching English in rural Vietnam, especially in An Giang province still faces various challenges. This study aims to investigate the challenges encountered by English teachers and the solutions they employ to address these challenges at a rural public primary school in An Giang province. A case study was employed, and data were collected through semi-structured interviews with three EFL teachers at a rural public primary school in An Giang province. Based on the data collected from teacher interviews, the results revealed that teachers encountered major challenges such as students’ limited vocabulary, lack of English practice environment, overcrowded classrooms, and low parental support. To overcome these obstacles, they implemented strategies such as using digital resources, organizing interactive speaking activities, motivating students through games and rewards, and cooperating with parents and local authorities to enhance facilities. The findings provide a clear picture of challenges and solutions in rural EFL teaching, and suggest that improving teacher training, assigning more resources, and increasing community involvement are essential steps to promote effective English instruction in rural Vietnamese primary schools
